Prepare yourself for a Noob Question
Forums
I was listening to this in my car today and was wowed by the drums. One thing that stood out was the riff that's like 2x louder than the rest of the drum parts. I am guessing that the riff was recorded separately and set to a higher level to make it stand out.

Mega High cut filter?
Forums
I meant to mention this a long time ago and I just remembered it again. When I was trying to mix and master for the first time on my band's album (and I am no mastering engineer for sure) I was using Izotope's "Ozone" for master bus compression and eq. Well one thing Ozone can do is analyze the overall frequency of other tracks and kind of give you a goal to shoot for.

Need live multitrack on the cheap.
Forums
I already have an original 01V with 8 channel ADAT out.
We need to record some live tracks from our shows... I was shown the MOTU 8Pre at a local music store and I'm considering buying it.
From what I understand, I can use the 8 channels of ADAT and add a few more channels via the analog pre's, and grab the tracks via firewire in Audacity or some other program.

Hi,
Record which instrument first?
Forums
I have a 8th grade metal band coming over to record a few songs pretty much pro bono (they said they'd pay something if they sold some CDs, you know...).

Why do digital tracks clip?
Forums
Ok, so if I used an analog mixing board or in an analog recording environment, I can understand how pushing a fader up too high would lead to clipping. Physical components can only take so much of a signal's volume until hitting some kind of breaking point (I don't know the math behind it, but I know it exists).

Podcast Recording Questions
Forums
Hey guys, I'm looking to start up a podcast (I have Vista), but I have a couple questions.
1. What is the best free software to do this? I'm thinking of using Audacity.
2. Is there a way to configure Audacity to record all audio on my computer? I am mostly looking to do this to record Skype and possible other audio, music, etc.
