Will a Brick improve my Firepod?

I am currently pretty happy with the results I am getting when recording my jazz guitar. I currently mic my Archtop (seven string, big body type) with a RODE NTK and record the direct signal from my guitar through an Avalon U5. I then re-amp with a radial X-amp through a Polytone and mic this up. My interface is a Firepod going into Logic.

BUILDING Studio- No Experience Need Help! $8000+ budget

Hi
I am building a home studio and need some advice on what pieces to buy. I need the computer, DAW, FM synth, audio interface, studio effects, guitar effects, instrument mic, large cardoid mic, a guitar, drum software which is compatible to be played with a Roland Vdrum series TD-3, a tube compressor and accessories.
So far, what I've got is:

Sound Card

So this has probably been asked before, but I have ADD and ADHD so I don't have the patience to use the search function. Anyway... I got a firewire mixer, and I realize that there isn't a sound card on it like there was with the cheap Tascam interface I was using before. Audition keeps telling me that I'm using the Audition sound and that I should get something else.

Compressors

I love compressors and compression and how it can make or break a track. I like how it takes finesse to do, that aspect appeals to me. But there is one thing I don't fully understand. Attack time. Release is easy enough to understand. Set it so that it releases gradually enough that you don't hear it, but not so long that it's like a clingy girlfriend.
