Best portable recorder for violin/string quartet?

I am a professional violinist, looking for advice on a portable digital recorder to use in daily practice and recording of rehearsals. I want something small enough to always have it in my fiddle case, yet deliver sound quality good enought from the build in mics to use in demo recordings for my website.

Los Angeles Recording School vs SAE vs Musician's Institute?

I'm moving to LA this summer and considering doing a music production/engineering course when I'm there - either Los Angeles Record School, SAE or Musician's Institute.

I searched this forum and found some similar topics from a few years ago but wanted some recent opinions from people who've done these courses.

I guess my ears aren't that great after all...

I tried two different compressor settings on distorted guitar parts and couldn't tell the two of them apart audibly. Any slight differences I attributed to bias, (expecting to hear a difference because you know what you are selecting).

For the first I used a ratio of 1.8/1 and set the threshold accordingly to achieve an average of -6dB compression.

Sebatron versus LA and Portico

Hi all,

Looking to get a preamp upgrade from my VoiceMaster Pro. Heard lot'sa great raves about Sebatron , Portico and LA610. Wondering if any one of them is a good investment.

Any comments is greatly appreciated.

Choosing acoustic guitars for worship

So, I've been elected without any say to lead the music for a new Saturday night worship service at my local fellowship, and it looks like I'll at least be starting by myself, maybe with a singer or two if I'm fortunate. Which means... I'll need an acoustic guitar. :? So much for swearing I'd never buy an acoustic guitar when I was an angry teenager.
