Description
An active monitor does not require external amplification, as amplifiers are housed within the cabinet. The input signal entering the monitor passes through the crossover network first, after which each band is separately amplified before being sent to the relevant drivers. ... This would be called a “bi-amp” system.

Tannoy Reveal Active or Yamaha MSP5a?

Hi guys,

I'm quite undecided as to which pair of active monitors to upgrade to... both being cheaper monitors, but I can get a pair of MSP5A's for $800 Australian, or a pair of Tannoy Reveal Actives for $900... as for the sound, its quite close competition between them- although the Tannoys are a steal considering their retail price down in Australia.

plugging powered monitors into laptop

i'm just getting setup to mix tracks that i've recorded into my Tascam 2488 on a laptop using Cubase sl. i have Behringer 2031a truth powered monitors, and i'm wondering how to plug them into the laptop. i've heard from some people that a $5 1/8 inch to balanced line converter will do, while others have told me that a usb or firewire interface with a monitor out is in order.
