Event studio precision monitors

I'm looking at getting some monitors soon. Some manufacturers make a passive and active versions of the same model. Specifically, I was thinking of the Dynaudio BM6a ($1700) vs. the Dynaudio BM6 + Hafler 3000 ($1300). Is the Hafler just not providing enough power in this situation?

I have been using two sets of passive speakers as monitors - easy to flip back and forth. Now I'm considering getting a pair of active monitors.

Any ideas about how to conveniently use more than one set of speakers when active monitors are involved would be much appreciated - this is new for me.

hi! the speakers to be powered should take about 170 watts if hi-passed at 80 hz.

the specs on Alesis look good, and especially the price looks good, however, there seems to be some resentment towards Alesis ... can somebody please educate me ? (seriously, i don't know much)

Are people still buying Passive Monitors or are Active Monitors the clear choice these days? Any retailer type folks have any experience of the difference in buying patterns from last year to this year fro active speakers?
