Best Mics

Just curious on some schools of thought for what would be the absolute best mics for recording various parts of an arrangement. Vocals, (best kinds for different types of songers) Kick Drum, Snare, Acoustic Guitar etc.

Just looking for opinions.

YOUR drum mic setup

Hey
just curious
slight twist to the what should I use for Micing drums up

what do YOU use to mic drums
Name the lot, over heads, bass drum.. snare ... and please.. please mention how many.. so say how many sm57's you use on the snare :P or how many over heads and where YOU PERSONALLY would place them

Rather interested to see what people do.

solo-drums

Hi everyone

I am going to record a solo-drum session with a young Norwegian jazz-musician. It will be recorded in a room with some good reverb. THe music will probably be more contemporary/classical than jazz, in the tradition of solo-improvisation drummers like Han Bennink. Even though the recording is only for demo-purposes, I would like to make it as good as possible.

Drum mic set

Right i'm looking to invest in a decent set of drum mics as part of a project studio, which is being steadily built upon with the intention of eventually renting it out. Now i'll have to admit i'm not very hot on drum mics, i usually use SM57's on snares and toms, and whatever designated bass drum mic and condensor overheads happen to be available.

TLM-127

I was just browsing through some posts elsewhere on the net and I was surprised by how many people hate this mic. I know the TLM-103 has its critics, but I suppose it's a matter of taste, and of course it has earned a lot of admirers too. I'm just wondering how many people here have opinions on the 127.

Thanks,
John Stafford
