Im new to the recording scene, and am hoping to get a setup soon. Ill focus mostly on electric and acoustic, with a little vocals thrown in. Im thinking about getting a SM57 and a Behringer 6-channel mixer. Ill use either Cubase or Audacity or some comparable program. My questions are:

Obviously i am new to the whole new computer based recording scene. My first question for this forum is what is the minimum amount of ram you need in any setup? I am currently loaded with 2gb. thanks

I've been home recording for a few years now. My setup is simple, a bunch of decent mics and preamps into a Fireface 800 to a Mac G5 using Logic and Waveburner with the internal G5 burner to make master CDs.

I can't seem to get a straight answer to this question and to my surprise I can't find one on this forum so I will ask the question:

I currently have a desktop system and have been entertaining the idea of getting rid of it and buying a new laptop. My question is, how much more powerful would the laptop be, or would it?
Do you think I'd have comparable DAW performance?

Im recording with computer at the moment but i have a cahnce to buy zoom hard disk recorder... Now my question is do i need it or should i rather buy better mic or something with that money ?

i am about to purchase a new imac for my home studio and i was wanting to know if it will affect processing speed to have a larger display with a more advanced video card. and also just any other advice on recording with imacs.

hey, can anyone help me out with my mic? i use the samson c01u usb and everytime i record in adobe audition 1.5 i get this loud visible noise. before i didnt have this problem but up until yesterday it happened. oh yeah, i tried using this mic on my sister's labtop and the noise wasnt there but when i tried recording with it using my pc, the noise came up again.

I been searching for the perfect Computer(DAW) hardwares-mothreboards,CPU,Video cards,etc//which can suit my needs..('bout 800 usd budget..Im ruuning a small home studio in Philippines,a very small time studio which caters indie bands. If somebody can advise which choices of hardware,will be much appreciate..
