I'm buying a new converter and interface for my MixDream hybrid DAW system and a modest attempt in mastering that I call polishing at this point.
I need 16 IO and an interface. The Prism ADA-8RX or less expensive RME are in the running for me.

We all know what it sounds like when we take two channels and pan them hard left and right and delay one track slightly.
If you are recording something in stereo and the converters are not tight does it cause a similar effect?

Man, I hate to dive into a new converter right now because I have a feeling something new is coming. I've been holding off on investing but its coming down to the wire for me.

Anyone have any suggestion, choices? Lynx Aurora vs Apogee?

What interface would you choose as well?

My sound card is an RME 9652 which has ADAT outs. Working fine.

Now for years I've used a Frontier Designs Tango 24 for the D/A portion (to get to the studio control mixer) but the Tango24 now seems to be flaking out.

I want to use the pres and EQ on the board prior to going ITB during the tracking phase and then come OTB and mix with the Soundtracs during the mixing process.

I am working together a plan for when I eventually start my own studio, and I am looking at setting up a mastering room. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to have though I o course have to fish around and try things out properly.

The main thing I am fuzzy on is which converters I should use?

I've been told that ITB converters may be a better choice for high-end audio now. It does make sense. What are some of the better PCI converters?
