Can anyone recommend a good, free electronic drum VST? Something along the lines of like a Roland Drum machine or something that would be good for ambient music. thanks

So, I've got the tough problem of not liking the sound I get out of software drum machines. I'm trying to get a nice studio drum sound for rock music. Usually, with this type of set up, the drums sound way too fake and leave me cringing. I've tried a few different programs but haven't really found one I've liked.

The latest Bond film theme song, by Jack White and Alycia Keys. I've heard this drum sound elsewhere but this song is the only one I can pinpoint at the moment. Maybe Black Keys.

Can this digital drum set (Yamaha YDD-60) be plugged directly into a recording device? I have a Korg D888.

I have been recording seriously for five years now and have been painstakingly searching for "that drum sound" for FIVE YEARS! I am looking for a Chad Smith a la Blood Suger Sex Magic meets Questlove bright snare/full Kick sound.

Ok, here's the deal. I have been recording quite successfully on a Yamaha AW1600 SIAB system, mainly punk rock songs, for drums i have been using Alesis SR16 and complimenting that with Alesis Performance Pad.

I only have a condenser mic, and we're going to aI'm recording just a small bass drum, snare and a ride cymbal - so a mini drum kit.

I've been talking to a lot of drummers lately about getting a good drum sound at live gigs and it seems that a lot of them have the same problem. Even with the use of various dampners etc there still seems to be a problem in getting a good in particular tom and bass drum sound. For example we are using Sennheiser e604's on the main kit and AKG D112 on the bass drum.
