Getting Started with a Home Studio
Hello, all. I've decided that I want to try my hand at building a home studio and I was wondering if you all could help me with the basics. The music I plan to create consists mainly of hip hop influences and will be composed of a mixture of samples and live instrumentation. Some of what I plan to buy at the moment includes:

using monitors
Hi, I finally bought a MOTU 8 pre and seem to have gotten it working ok. Haven't really tried to record much yet. But I have a question about using monitors. I have the monitors plugged into the back of the motu. I have my electronic drums going into the interface.

Regular situation... Starting out.
I was thinking to start to record people for free. So that I can acquire more skills, and no one will be pissed at each other. I am not that new to the whole process. So I was thinking of giving of 2 hours of recording for free, and if they like it they can pay me as much as they want. I really don't know what is the best strategy in my situation.

Acoustic treatment
Well I was not very happy with the way my vocals were recording. I thought about it and decided to do more acoustic treatment. Since my recording studio is my bedroom I was originally going to keep it to a minimum.
I realized quickly I had to change my original plan. I treated my room with a lot of the auralex foam squares.

Joyce Hatto hoax story
Has anyone heard about this strange and interesting hoax?
http://
Pretty funny, actually, and anyone who's ever recorded with a DAW will be nodding their head in agreement when they read some of this. Looks like they used Adobe Audition to discredit some of the works. (No idea what the perpetrators used in the first place. )

Bass traps on a budget
I have know since I set up shop that the LF in my monitoring environment had some peaks. Not as bad as a bedroom, but definitely not smooth. (The monitors are B&W 801series III which can definitely reproduce 25Hz, and flat to boot.)
