What is best multitrack input for external preamp
My understanding is that coming out of the preamp is a 'line level'. And if your multiitrack doesn't have a line level input and you go thru another input you are just going thru the multitrack's preamp, which is what you are trying to avoid even though you may have 'warmed' up your sound with the external preamp.
DAW vs. . Analogue vs. . External digital mixing
All.
I’m weighing up a possible mixer solution for a home studio. The current setup is as follows:
Vocals: BLUE Kiwi / U87 -> Liquid Channel
Acoustic guitar: KM184 x 2 -> John Hardy M1
Room: BLUE Kiwi -> John Hardy M1
Preamps -> LynxTWO -> PC with Cubase SX 3

problem starting pro tools session on external hard disk
I use Pro Tools LE version 6.4. I use an external Hard disk. When I start a new session I cann't do it on my external harddisk (La Cie 160 GB), I get the message ''session must be on an audio record volume''.
My first external preamp
I'm wanting to take the next step and see how different my recordings sound with an external preamp. Right about now you're thinking to yourself, "What a loser! Never even purchased a real preamp yet." I'm currently using a Mackie 24 channel 8-bus board paired with a MOTU 828MkII A/D converter. Been recording with this gear for about three years.

USB 2.0 External Drives bad for audio?
I was having a problem chaining my firewire 400 drive through my metric halo and into my mac. I discovered that since firewire 400 is only half-duplex, that was causing the problem (when the computer tried to write the data to the drive, it had to stop the incoming audio..Duh). So I bought a USB drive so that i could have the IO and drive on seperate buses.

small mixer for use with external preamps
Hi everyone.
I'm interested in buying a small mixer, but don't intend to use the preamps on it. What I'm interested in is simple functions like panning and levels, as I need to use a Decca-Tree setup for some concert recordings, and want to a live mix to two channels.

Formatting of External Audio Xfer Drive?
People,
Picked up a Western Digital External HD for transferring Project & Bundle files (SONAR XL) between our band's two project studios (since most of our projects are well over CD-R capacity.)
The internal secondary drives in the PC's in our studios (which are used exclusively for audio data) are formatted to NTFS.

Connecting desk with external converters
I presently have a 2 in/ 2 out sound card from emagic and I am looking around for an upgrade. I need an 8 in 8 out card lwith an external AD/DA converter ike the MOTU mk2/3 or the Aardvarkq10 etc etc. - the reason being, I'd like to record drums with a track per mic. (as you can imagine, trying to record drums on just two tracks is hard work)
