Hoping someone can help out - I work between my home studio and a professional room and I need an external hard drive to carry PT sessions between.

I'm running Cubase sx 3 through a souped up sinlgle processor g5 and a MOTU 896, i wanted to buy a nice tube mic preamp, but wasnt sure how to bypass the preamp on the 896 to get it into the computer through the firewire.

I just made the plunge into firewire recording, just ordered a 16 channel firewire mixer. I am really nervous about the latency issue, I had a standalone unit which does not have that problem. How do I go about connecting a external firewire hard drive and the interface together on a laptop? Most recommend an external drive for recording.

I really hope someone can help me with this problem, I feel like I’ve made some headway but I’m still slightly clueless! Apologies if this post is a bit long.

First off my system: I have a relatively new Compaq 1.6ghz laptop, 1GB mem, win xp sp2, with a crappy internal soundcard, no slot for a new internal one.

My question is when you are mixing in your DAW do you burn from your DAW or do u get ad external CD burner ive always just used the DAW is that wrong or is that what most people do?

Im taking an audio production class and they want us to get a firewire external hard drive with a Oxford 911 Chipset.

Right now however i have a Maxtor 250gig SATA internal hdd and a Western Digital 120 ATA internal hdd. So I dont need to spend a lot of money on buying an external when i can just buy a case.

hey guys i brought this question up before but i had no luck. I am using a mac g5 and i am trying to connect this external hard drive that i had laying around so i can record straight to it. I try to play my pro tools files off of the drive and it says that the drive needs to be set up for play back and record in workspace.

:? My Fostex Fd4 is taking atleast 18 hours to format my 73gb SCSI external harddrive. the manual says it will take a while, but I dont think it should take this long. I think something is wrong. the manual says that it will say COMPLETE!. My first attemp yeilded no COMPLETE!, even though I let it continue the process overnight.

I have a questions concerning Sound Devices 722. Apologies if this reveals an appallingly low level of technical knowledge.

Sometimes I use the analog inputs on the 722 line level with an external pre suich as the DAV BG 1 (yes it is a terrific pre, no doubt about it).

To what extent will the external pre be "coloured" by the 722 when used line at level?
