need help choosing hard drive and firewire card

Hey Guys,

So I am new to recording and have a few questions. I recently purchased a Saffire Pro 40 Firewire interface.

My friend is lending me his computer to record, but it needs an internal hard drive and PCI firewire card. I also need an external hard drive for storage.

So lay it on me: what is important in selecting each of these?

Portable interface advice. Usb vs Firewire reliability, repair-ability

Portable interface advice.

Hello,

I have a studio rig I'm fairly happy with, but I want to be able to record me and my guitar while I'm away from home, on my XP based laptop.

Question one:

Any recommendations based on the following criteria?

USB/Firewire Audio Interface for 2011 MBP

Hey Guys,

I'm brand new to the recording game and was wondering what the best budget preamp/audio interfaces were for home recording. I have a new macbook pro and want to record guitar and vocals.
In terms of budget I probably don't want to spend much more than $200 as I'm also buying a mic.

Any help would be awesome, thanks :)

USB/Firewire Audio Interface.

Looking for the best value one of these.

I have a 2011 macbook pro and am looking for an interface to use, opinions on best value with phantom power for inputs?

I've heard to stay away from prosonus and m-audio is OK but not much else, and advice will be helpful.
For use with an SM58 for vocals.
Also for recording guitar.

Replacing firewire ports

I messed up my firewire ports on my MOTU 8pre.. I was in a hurry and plugged it in upside down. I'm figuring thats whats wrong with it (it won't switch over to interface mode). Anyway, I took it apart and it looks simple enough to replace them, but I can't find them anywhere. If anyone knows anything of this sort please let me know. Thanks
