This is my first post, and I literally signed up specifically for input to my issue. I have the Mackie Onyx 1640 i firewire integrated mixer, and I really want to find a reliable, powerful PC laptop with firewire. I'm shopping online and I can't seem to find anything.

Looking for a 24in/24out optical to firewire interface

I had my heart set on a MOTU 2408 mkii to exactly what I need. Come to find out the firewire looking output wasn't a firewire output. So now my hunt is on to find just a straight 24in/out optical interface that sends the signal via firewire. I don't want to combine many units together to give me 24in/out, I don't need extra bells and whistles on it, since nothing else will be used.

FireWire 800/400 + Focusrite?

Hello there. I am going to buy a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24DSP interface, which will be working along with Shure SM7B or Shure Beta 58a. Right now I just need to choose which FireWire to use and I have no idea. Is there any difference between FireWire 800 or 400? And most important is 800 for every computer with FireWire? (got ACER 7730g)
