Tight, heavy guitar tone?
I'm currently working on a musical project that i've been writing for sometime and am looking for a really tight, heavy as hell guitar tone to underpin technical melodies and heavy use of orchestration.
My two choices for guitar tracking are an M-Audio Black Box and Native instruments Guitar Rig 2.

loading guitar amps in studio
Does anybody out there use a Marshall PowerBrake or a THD Hotplate on their guitar cabinets in the studio?
I understand that they both allow for the user to get better (more) gain without all that volume (typical of a 125W amp).
But are they good for recording per say?
Or is it better to mic a guitar cabinet without using these? And why?

Guitar Sound v. Micing Technique
I'm trying to get a GREAT metal guitar sound with the equipment i've got. The problem i'm having is the sound i record is somewhat muddy and not "tight." I'm not sure if my problem is the guitar tone i have now(which sounds great in my basement where we're recording) or the mic placement.

Isolation booths for guitar,vocals
Hello. I was wondering why people use isolation booths for vocals but say that they sound like a "phone booth" when it comes to recording acoustic guitar. Doesn't the "phone booth" sound also apply to vocals?
Thanks
Mike

DI guitar bad for monitors / speakers?
when i was playing electric guitar as a teenager i remember often being told not to play the guitar through my home stereo because it was bad for the speakers.
in the age of DAW is this still the case?

What's the deal with Vomume knobs on guitar amps
are they liniar?
are they logarithmic?
inverse logarithmic?
why does it always seem like 10 is just a notch higher then 5
yet their should be many more steps between 0-2?
follow what i'm saying?

guitar schematic
Hi
I have a gibson L6-S and I need a schematic for it. It has 2 pickups, 3 knobs (1vol, 2tone) and a 6 way switch. Can anybody help me. The switch is a 2 layered 6-position switch and its a little complicated to figure out.
Let me know.
