Ok, I just got a Pro Tools Digi 002 and I'm trying to hook up a 2nd internal hard drive for it (Hitachi 120 gig) on my Power Mac dual G4 desktop. I screwed it into the bay above my main hard drive, connected the two cables (the attachments that were on the cables already hooking up the main drive) and closed it up.

I am running the Mbox on a Toshiba Satellite-
I need to get and external Hard drive. I went to Pro Tools site for compatible drives and got thoroughly confused and lost in all the pages of text..
Any suggestions for this laptop setup?

I would just like to know everyone's thoughts on external hard drives. Which ones have you used? how well have they have operated? how well have they NOT operated? etc... I would appreciate any advice at all in this department because it's new to me and i know very little. I am looking at the LaCie 250GB, Firewire 800, 7200rpm, 8MB buffer. I appreciate it and take care.

A client will bring in a session recorded on a Mackie HD recorder and we would like to edit and mix the stuff on my PT|HD rig running on a Mac G4 OS X. (all the tracks have been 'consolidated'.)

My plan is to just take the drive out of the SCSII enclosure and connect it to my Mac or insert it into a Firewire enclosure.

P4 2.4 G FSP 533 HT
MOBO ASUS P4PE SATA and PROMISE CONTR. on board
1 GIG KINGSTON RAM PC 2700
MATROX G550 GR.CARD
WD 40 GB 8 MB CACHE on first IDE bus with XP SP1 and progs installed on it

Hey, I'm hoping someone has some expeirience with hard drive setups. I am trying to organize the 3 hd's in my daw for the smoothest results.

Here's the list:
Seagate 120gb 7200 8mb buffer master ata100
Western Digital 40gb 7200 2mb buffer master ata100
Maxtor 40gb 5400 2mb buffer slave ata66

I have a hard drive that died as i was just installing another drive to make a back up. How ironic is that ? The drive will no longer spin. It does not do any clicking noise which I know is something some do when there is a head crash So my guess and the one of a Nashville studio tech is that there was a power failure on the drive that lead to the drive not spining at all.

I had a crushed on a hard drive and I need to recover the DATA does any one has a recommendation? Its a MAC.

Just wondering...with USB2 and FW drives as fast and reliable as they are now, is there any reason to have a big internal drive anymore?

Seems anything more than a small internal drive with the OS, DAW, and effects is pretty much wasted space...

Opinions?

Curious to know if an external firewire drive will work with Halion. What if I were to purchase an ATA 100 drive, 8mb buffer, put it in an external fireware case. .

Also, do all of the firewire cases come standard now with the Oxford 911 chipset?
