Transient Designer Hardware vs. Software
I have them both and the hardware sounds better.
Why?
I'll post an example of a kick but for now.

Hey all, it's been a while since I posted anything but rest assured I've been lurking, stalking everyone's posts as they get sent to my g-reader.

compressor plugins vs. real compressor
I was recording last night with a new preamp that I built (Telefunken V-72) and I am getting pretty good sounding recordings now using Pro Tools. When I add a compressor using the various plugins that come with Pro Tools LE it seems to me that they are actually degrading the sound and reducing the gain.

Hardware vs. Software
Hi. I'm near completion of remodeling my basement studio and my mindset is turning more towards what kind of gear I want to end up with at this point rather than what drapes to pick out. I've already had Auralex do the room analysis thing and the treatment will be in soon. I will have a Tascam DM-4800 as the front end of my DAW running Cubase SX3.

Mastering: Software based vs. . hardware based?
Does software based mastering compare well to hardware based mastering with devices like the TC Electronic Finalizer or the Focusrite MixMaster or the Drawmer DC2476?
Does anyone own any of these hardware devices?
Compressors : Software vs. . Hardware
So I have the Avalon 737 and I've discovered that the compressor is a little weak. I currently use the UAD powered plugins (an LA-2A on every track) and the TC Powercore. They both have some pretty amazing plugins. But I'm wondering is there really a major difference between the hard and software ? UAD has the 1176 the Fairchild and tons on other classic gear.

Compressor plugins vs. . outboard
Aside from the poorer tracking capabilities, can I get a free or very cheap compressor plugin that will function as well as a $100-200 outboard compressor? I'll be using the compressor on vocals and acoustic guitar.

Hardware vs. . Software Compressors
I have a dbx DDP rack compressor/limiter and the Waves NPP compressor. I'm interested in finding out from another point of view, if one had a choice of the 2, which one would be better? I'm setting up to lay a few backup & adlib vocal tracks as well as main vocals too.

comparing hardware to plugins
Has anyone out there (here?) had the pleasure of comparing the hardware counterpart to your plugins Which ones and how did they stack up?
What are the closest to the real thing? The UAD? The Powercore? How close to the real thing was it? Does it really sound like a 1176? What's the record for the most question marks in a post?
