Hardware vs. Software

Hi. I'm near completion of remodeling my basement studio and my mindset is turning more towards what kind of gear I want to end up with at this point rather than what drapes to pick out. I've already had Auralex do the room analysis thing and the treatment will be in soon. I will have a Tascam DM-4800 as the front end of my DAW running Cubase SX3.

PC hardware

I am currently running 2 instances of XP. One is my everyday stuff that I need for work and school, and the other is my DAW config. Just recently my Asus p5n32e blew and I had to send it back to Newegg. I was just informed that they no longer have that product in stock and have discontinued selling it so I will be offered an equivalent model or refund.

Audio hardware for recording into laptop (Mac)?

If this has been asked before, I couldn't find it, but perhaps you could direct me to it.

Anyway,

I am trying to figure out how to can record live drums, guitar, synth (separately or together) onto my laptop directly into Ableton Live.

From brief research it seems that the best idea is a mic and an MBOX...is that correct?

Thank you for any and all help =)

Where can I get frequency response info on this hardware?

I got a blue tube stereo tube preamp with the 12ax7 tube. As well as a apex 435 condenser mic. I want to know what frequencies these add or cut. (how they color the signal). Any idea where I can get this info?

Also is it possible to get the same info for these speakers? Altec Lansing ACS33?

Thanks

Digidesign Hardware compatability

ok, so i need someone to set the record straight for me. There is all this talk of things not working, things working, someone bought out someone and now it works, etc. .so. I own a Digi 002 rack (w/PT LE) What, if any, DAW software is compatable with my digi rack? For example, if i want to switch from Pro Tools to Logic or Cubase, would it be possible to use the 002 rack as my interface?

Home Studio Recording Hardware

Hi, I am a 17 year old from the UK and have recently become interested in doing some recording. I have tried using the line-in port on my computer and a couple of old microphones and had pretty rubbish results. I am now thinking about buying some equipment so I can do some semi-decent recording, however, I am a novice at this and so need some help in what I should be buying.
