Hum noise in recordings..

I just got a multi-track recorder and I'm new to the process so excuse my ignorance. After connecting the LINE output from my amplifier to the recorder and turn up the volume on the recorder, I can hear a consistent hum noise, but when I touch the recorder itself with my hand or one of the 1/4 cord inputs connected to my guitar or the recorder the noise almost completely stops..

Altec 1567A mixer hum, help needed

I got an Altec 1567A mixer and hooked up a line level signal (like a CD player) to input 1 octal socket pin 7 hot and 8 ground. Pins 5 & 7 are linked. The output is connected to output octal socket pin 7 hot, pin 8 ground. It has a bad hum/low frequency buzz, I think its the way its hooked up. I don't think its the unit itself and I tried lifting grounds on everything except the mixer.

Hum-Drum Help

Greetings. I will be attempting to record a drum set for the first time ever, Monday, and was wondering if anyone would be willing to offer up any advice on getting a decent sound with what I have available. I know the kit is made by Tama and sounds pretty good live. He also has an assortment of Zildjian cymbals. I'm looking for a starting point as far as mic placement goes.

Jazz Bass pickup hum

My recording engineer wants me to up-grade my single coil pickups on my Fender Jazz Bass to eliminate the hum.
In reserching the problem, I've found that these two stock single coil pickups should cancel the hum themselves by design.
How do I check the polarity of these pickups to see if they are installed correctly?
Are there any other tips for eliminating the hum?
