Second - resonsant head - kick drum mic

Alright so I know what the purpose of a LD Condenser microphone on the outside of a kick drum (resonant head) is used for (ie. fuller more deep sound) but my question is what do those of you who use this second mic do with it.

Do you just combine the tracks in the mixer going into either software or tape? Or do you keep it seperate.

Any suggestions for a sweet kick and/or snare mic preamp

Forums

My board only has 4 mic preamps. Any suggestions for a nice pre for kick drums and/or snares? I'm not really looking in the high end range of $4,000...Something reasonably priced around $300-400 that is crisp and punchy. I'd welcome any suggetstions even out of my price range; I could always make it part of my "wish list." This is for a live submix to our main mixer during gigs.

kick miking

I just bought an Audix D6 and it sounds really good in live applications but in the studio it really isn't very versatile. Does anyone have an opinion on the Audix D4 for a more natural sound. I like the Audix mics a lot because the design and the small size of it makes it easier to get the mic into the bass drum at whatever depth you want. does anyone have any tips on anything.

Seeking Kick Drum Mic Advice

I use an acrylic kick drum that measures 22" x 20". It sounds huge in my studio. Then I mic it with a Beta-52 a few inches into the resonant head, facing some 20 degrees off-center and an MXL 63M a few feet from the drum, facing on-center. This is the best combination I was able to find, but it still leaves me way unimpressed.

Free HQ Snare & Kick samples(gog file included)

I've been busy getting together some really BIG sounding snare samples and I'd like to share my efforts. These samples (gog file included for drumagog users) are of 3 of my current snares, each run thru various high quality pres and industry standard mics. (sm57/API 512c, 421/API 512c, GT44/Sebatron vmp-2000e) .
