My soundcard is MOTU 828 MK2 and I need some mic preamps. Would you rather choose SP828 or m-audio Octan with ADAT? I thing that the only advantige of Octan is that I can have more inputs on my audio interface. What about sound quality? I used crappy Behringer MX series mixer preamps till today, is it big difference?

I currently have a Mac G4 with an m-audio 2496 PCI card, two ART preamps and a Roland VM-3100Pro digital mixer ($200, eBay), which I use to give me two more inputs and preamps via the digital inputs on the 2496. Everything is fine, though the VM-3100 is way too obscure for me to do anything with it besides simple mixing.

I'm trying to get four discrete inputs with my m-audio 2496 in a Mac G4 running OS9 and Cubase VST 24. I'm using the two audio ins with separate preamps, no problem. Recently I bought a used Roland VM-3100Pro digital mixer, with a digital stereo output. It does work with the 2496, but I can't figure out how to get Cubase to recognize all four ins, the two audio and the two digital.

I'm wondering if there is a considerable difference in the A/Ds on the MOTU 828mkll and M-Audio Firewire 410. We have a 410 already. We will be recording 24/96 for this project. We don't have to worry about the pres on either device. We have a nice one already. Thanks in advance.

What are the differences besides looks of these 2 inexpensive preamps ? Are they basically the same preamps or is the DMP3
worth the extra dollars over the Audio Buddy?

Hi, am having some problems with my new sound card. I just got this sound card put into my comp and did the basic routing. I am using Sonic Foundry Vegas Audio as my multitrack recorder, when i asign a channel to record, it records fine, but sometimes a crackling sound accompanies the recording.
