Hoping someone can help out - I work between my home studio and a professional room and I need an external hard drive to carry PT sessions between.

Which would provide lower latency:

(1) Going directly into the Mac Pro's built-in optical SPDIF inputs

OR

(2) Getting a firewire interface?

Sorry if this type of question has been asked before but I use my intel Imac with Logic for recording and also as a handy tool for teaching. I have not connected my Imac to the web to keep it clean but I was wondering if it is adviseable to install Word, Excel, etc. on it or if this will be a bad idea and cause problems with the recording side of things.

I am thinking about buying an API a2d, which has AES/BEU output, as well as S/PDIF coaxial output. I am trying to figure out the best way to get the output into my Mac Pro.

I only need two channels. It would be great if I could save some money here.

I bought a used Digi 002R on ebay. When I plugin the Digi 002R into my Mac mini, the 002R is not recognized when starting the Pro Tools LE 6.9.3 application. The hard dive that is plugged into the back of the 002R is also not being recognized on the Mac Mini, not even in Disk Utility.

so after much thought, i think i finally settled on a mac pro. Just wanted to ask a few more questions. 1) how does Cubase 4 run on the mac pro? compared to g5 and a pc of the similar quality? 2) how does firepod work on mac pro (I'm planning on upgrading that eventually) 3) i also heard something about older vst plugins not working on intel macs? I have a motif es8 with optional mlan16e expansion board installed (transfers audio and midi over firewire), logic pro software, Mac pro, PreSonus firebox, and JBL lsr4328 monitors.

hey i was wondering what people thought i should get. One of the Newer intel imacs the one thats 20" with like a 2.16 processor or one of the older Mac G5s that isn't intel. Im running Cubase 4 and firepod. any opinions?

I have an audio visual rental company and I am also an old sax player. That said I want to make a nice little studio with my new mac 3ghz dual proc machine. I just don't know what controller ( I like having sliders but dont need to ) Software as well (we have it set up right now with 2 42" lCD screens and final cut pro studio).

The resaon I'm asking this is two part. 1. I'm currently running Logic 5.5.1 on PC and will soon be moving to Mac to upgrade to the latest version of logic but I want to buy a UAD-1 now to use on current projects. 2. As I have to buy the UAD-1(pci) to work in my current system, will it work also on the newest Macs? Or do you have to purchase the UAD-1e(pci express) for the new Macs.
