It appears there are a number of mastering studios today that also offer online service, where one sends their mix files via email, and then receives the master back through email without ever going to the mastering studio.

Does DIY Mastering work?

So I previewed my mix with the mastering plug I intend to use to master my my ADL 600 song, and liked the sound. I noted values, removed the plugs, exported the wav file into my mastering window, and ummm... started to master. Yet the values would not work.

Hi, ive been mixing and mastering and recording for about 2 years now, I'm not a vet at this, I'm still learning but ive learned a lot through much trial and error and would like to reach out and share or help anyone needing assistance with their projects as i would like to be able to reach out to some vets for help and info when i need it...

When a movie is made, and there is an accompanying soundtrack of music, is this music produced differently than if it was strictly for audio release? Are there studios out there that specialize in working on music intended for film scores?

What are the two most important pieces of gear to a mastering engineer, as pertaining to final quality of sound as opposed to say workflow?

I wanted to hear how my mix might sound after mastering, so I listened to it with a mastering plug in. I liked the sound. It was quite different than if I just turn the levels up.

I am curious, do mix engineers do any temporary pre mastering, to get a feel of how the song might sound after mastering?

Is reverb ever added at the mastering stage? If so, is it a common thing? If it is something that is done, is there any compelling reason to leave the mix dry until mastering?
