Suggestions for good rack-mountable mic preamp?
Any suggestions for a really good mic preamp, particularly for drums? API was suggested and it would be great if I could gradually get some of the 512's, but I think you need a different type of rackmount system (lunchbox?). I'd like to keep it at around $600-800 per channel. I'd like to be able to gradually collect due to price range.
Any suggestions for a sweet kick and/or snare mic preamp
My board only has 4 mic preamps. Any suggestions for a nice pre for kick drums and/or snares? I'm not really looking in the high-endrange of $4,000...Something reasonably priced around $300-400 that is crisp and punchy. I'd welcome any suggetstions even out of my price range; I could always make it part of my "wish list." This is for a live submix to our main mixer during gigs.
How to expand a Digidesign system for more mic preamps cheap
If I purchased a Digidesign 002 or 003 unit (with or without control board), what would be the best way for me to have a 12 mic preamp setup for simultaneous recording. since the 002 and 003 units only have 4 mic preamps. I don't want to have to buy 3 003 units to do this. If that solution would even work.
Cheaper mic & preamp or just a more expensive mic?
Hello.
I'm a producer that only uses software and I need to start recording at home and I'm thinking about buying the following hardware:
Audio-interface: E-MU 0404 (200€)
Microphone: AKG c 3000B (250€)
Studio monitors: Samson R5A (300€)
Pre-Amp: DPS II (330€)
002r mic preamp question...
OK...
So a friend of mine has a 002r and he had the mic preamps hot rodded to API pres. Has anyone ever heard of this. If so do you know where I could have it done? how much it cost? any of that?
Thanx, Jeremy

Changing a tube in a mic preamp
I'm curious - is it common to replace tubes in mic preamps (before they burn out)? And does it actually make a lick of a difference?

Ideas on a Good Mic and Preamp?
Ok, I have been looking for a short while for a good mic and preamp combo. The main purpose of these is to record studio vocals, acoustic guitar, and maybe piano as well. Mainly Vocals. Im looking possilbly for tube gear that will give me the warmth, character, and coloration of vintage gear. I have a 2-$3,000 budget to work with, and Im not in a rush to find anything.

Best two channels of mic preamping for $1000?
What would you recommend for the best two channels of microphone preamping for 1000.00?
They will be running to an Mbox 2, and Mac OSX on pro tools
Microphones right now are an SM57 and a RODE NT1A.
This setup will be used for recording guitar amplifiers, with up to 2 amps at a time.
