Buying my first mics to record a piano (and other stuff...)... is this mic ok?
Hello everyone,
found this beautiful forum (and neverending source of knowledge) thanks to a friend of mine.
Time has come for me to start buying mics for my home-studio set up.
I have an acoustic piano I'd love to record in a decent way, and also a classical guitar (and I'm going to buy a mandolin too... eheheheh).
Best wireless headset mics, transmitters, receivers
I have a big opportunity to supply and provide all sorts of wireless remote services.
Please chime in and share what you know about all this from the headsets, transmitters and wireless receivers. Are there certain mics that work better and are there certain headsets that people prefer?
Since RODE is a big supporter of RO, I was considering their new line, the HS1 headset.
Any thoughts on CAD mics?
Anyone here using CAD mics? If so, any models and opinions would be welcome. In my hunt for mics, I learned there is a reseller of this company not far from where I am.

Tube mics vs. FET mics- what difference am I going to hear?
Yes, I know that strictly speaking this question belongs in the mic forum, but there appears to be many fewer readers/posters there.
The low down on USB mics
I see some mics as being USB, i.e., plugin directly into the computer. Are there advantages for this method? I am a bit confused as to where the gain comes from, if my audio interface with built in preamps is bypassed. Any insight into USB mics would be appreciated.

UK Wireless (mics, IEMs, guitar mince)
USA had it, now it's our turn.
Assuming it hasn't been posted, I just found out today that Channel 69 (854-862) is going to be kaput by 2012.
Basically, Ofcom want everyone to up and move to channel 38 (604-612).

48V phantom power through dynamic or other non 48V mics- concerns?
I have a Saffire USB 6 that has two inputs, but only one 48V switch for both ins. If only one of my mics is say an LDC, is there cause for concern with using non 48V mics on the other input, given that there is 48V at this second connection?
Fundamental concepts of acoustic guitar recording- one, two or more mics?
Is there any overwhelming advantage to recording acoustic guitar with two or more mics? As a general principle, would better engineer's prefer that everything come together on one mic, or would they prefer to have two or more sources to work with?
