Casual-use drum mics?
We're going to start making some live multitrack gig recordings of the band with a StudioLive desk, but I want to start recording some rehearsals as well for listening back purposes later.

Ribbon mics and quiet sound sources
So last night I was recording lightly picked guitar (both nylon and steel string in turn) with Beyer 130/160 in MS. The guitarist uses primarily the pads of his fingers and his sound is pretty quiet (he's used to playing amped). I like the sound I got best with the pair about two feet away, but at this distance I had my API 3124 cranked pretty much all the way.

Heil Mics - really that good?
I was in my local music store asking about the Shure SM7b when they tell me that the Heil PR40 is a better mic for less money.
When I Google the name there are a lot of positive reviews for both the PR30 and PR40.
Anybody have experience with these?
Thanks.

Frequency Responses of Figure 8 Mics
Anyone have any frequency response curves of a Figure 8 mic? I believe that they should exhibit a 6 dB/octave slope, but I haven't seen any data.

Which mics?
I'm looking to catch the room sound of two guitars, bass and drums, and vocals. Right now I have nothing but a new laptop with vista. The interface I am considering is the PreSonus Firestudio. The room size is 15' X 20'. I was thinking of two area mics but I'm not sure which to go with. Do I need a pre-amp?

2 Mics 1 Source
OK, so I decided to break out the old Audix i5 today and use it in conjunction with my SM57. Is there a risk of phase cancellation, and how could I consciously avoid problems?

More gear advise - mics and interface - and more. . .
I am in a couple of bands. I do the sound. Rehearsals and jams are at my house. The main band is five-piece rock n roll. Right now there is only vocals through the mixing beard. All I have to record with is a laptop. Oh, and I have a Tascam 22-4 reel-to-reel that I may or may not use.
Choral or vocal + stereo mics?
I run a project studio in an old, large church.
While I don't typically do acoustic work, the space does lend itself to such a thing, and the owner approached me today w/ a few ideas.
He's interested in having a choral group perform/record. Also a more tribal vocal (chant) + hand drums + harmonium + flute group.

The right mics?
Currently I run a Behringer C-4 (which I think is specifically for cymbals), and a Sm57 for recording a guitar cab. I've been noticing that it's not capturing the nuance of the amp. It just seems to be lacking. Generally I just assume what I'm using is wrong. because well... it normally is.
What mics should I be using to record?
