I have the option to A/D with either the MOTU 896 or Finalizer 96k...has anyone tested them and know which sounds better in the end?

I'm planning on getting a mac with dp4 and I'm not sure does the MOTU 896 firewire act as a soundcard? if not what is its purpose and what is a great sound card to get for a mac. i want to use digital and analog in/outs.

Can you give me a good chain from say a keyboard or mic to the cpu.

like mic - mic preamp - a/d conv. -etc. also please refer me to a great mic preamp.

Has anyone had the opportunity to try out the MOTU 896 interace on a PC? I have heard about driver hasles and wanted to hear some other opinions.

Are there any other interfaces on the market that give you the same front panel control and 8 mic preamp's in one unit?

Hello there! Does anyone knows if the 828 or the 896 will work as a standalone converter? If you just plug it's outputs (lightpipe) into a digi001 turn it on, will it send a signal out? Or evenif you run DP on the background... I don't know, I'm just curious!

Yes it is! Firewire, 96KHz,8 mic preamps,ADAT, AES EBU, everything. Please any idea of the best price for this one and where?
