Hi, I'm new here and come form the visual world so Audio is not my forte, but I find it facinating. I need to shoot street musicians with a small crew and am wondering what mics you would suggest? I'm thinking cardioid pattern mics in a stereo (I think they call it XY) type set up.

I spent 18 years on the road as a electronic duo playing clubs using racks of midi gear and sequencers with a guitar. I took jobs away from 5 piece rock bands all the time. I helped build this nightmare.

Why do musicians slave themselves for FREE (or for peanuts) just to get their name in a credit roll? I can tell you after having produced a movie that I could CARE LESS what credits (if any) someone has. There's only 2 things I care about: 1) Is the song what I'm looking for and is the quality up to par, and 2) How cheaply can I license it for? Is it within my budget?
