Recording piano and vocals - help!

Forums

I'm a piano teacher and composer and am exploring the options of investing in some technology to record both my own compositions and my piano lessons.

I've got my eye on a super bit of mixing kit but am completely stumped as to the best way of setting up mics so that they pick up both the piano and myself and the student's voices. I don't even know which mics would be the best.

Recording classical grand piano with Schoeps MK21s

Hi guys,
my question is about one of the most demanding acoustic instrument for the recording engineer: classical grand piano.
I'm a pianist and I wanted to record my live recitals, so I began with RODE NT4, then Neumann KM183s and finally Schoeps CMC5 with MK21 stereo matched (I choose MK21 over MK2 because of non stellar acoustic venues where I play).

RODE NT2-A for grand piano recording

Forums

I am assembling gear for recording my grand piano in my living room. The room acoustic is pretty good, fairly well damped but I think sufficiently live for a pleasing sound. I don't really want to spend too much, certainly no more than $1500. I will be using the Focusrite Sapphire with my MacBook Pro.

[Edit: I forgot to say that for near-field monitoring I am using the Blue Sky EXO.]

Mic placement for Upright Piano.

Forums

Anyone have any suggestions for recording an upright piano? It seems that there is a ton about recording grands, but not very much for uprights. My parents own a Huntington Piano Co that they have kept in tune for as long as I can remember. I'm borrowing a pair of NT5 and I thought I'd test them out on it. Has anyone had any luck with certain mic placements?
Thanks
