Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

Hooking up another mic preamp to a 003.

I am basically wondering if hooking up a preamp via lightpipe to my 003 involves anything more than simply plugging it in and seeing the inputs in Pro Tools. Also, on a totally unrelated note, is it a good idea to track in Pro Tools, while mixing in another program, such as cubase, or will that not work? The reason I ask is because I have a greater selection of plugins on my Cubase rig.

The last purchase... a preamp! (choose your own adventure)

Allright, good people. So I need some advice on what to do here. I'm recording in Protool LE with a Mbox. Using 2 RODE NT5s. Basically tracking some quiet acoustic tunes. I need to get a preamp for around 200. 2 channels so I can record in stereo. Some recommendations:
M-Audio DMP3
or
get one of the following and switch out the tubes...
ART TPS II

Good cheap preamp?

Hi - I'm recording mostly acoustic and vocals - sort of Neil Young-ish songs. In the past I've just gone directly into my ProTool LE with a PPA LD-1. I'm looking to buy a decent preamp to warm up and fill out the signal. Don't want to spend much more than 200. Is this possible, any good places to start? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thanks.
