Start small or go for expandability? Firestudio or Firepod?

I'm thinking of buying a firewire soundinterface in the likes of PreSonus Firestudio, mostly because of the expandability with the ADAT connectivity. Thing is, for a poor sound engineering student like me, that's a lot of money. I'd gladly put out the money if it's an interface i can do with for some time.

Hi guys, I'm new here.

I'm to the point where I need to upgrade from Garageband using a used MBox with no Pro Tools---into something a tiny little bit higher end.

I need more XLR inputs for full band recording. At least 8. I'm definitely on a budget.
I'm not using Pro Tools, because it's just too expensive and limiting in the 4 input, 32 track max Digi LE setup.

Firebox or Firepod?

Hey guys, I was wondering which one of these I should get. The extra $100 isn't a HUGE deal, but here's the thing:

I record my stuff alone, and at most I would be singing and playing guitar at the same time. This only takes up 2 inputs. Do you think that I should get the firepod with 8 just in case I need it? Or the firebox with 2 inputs and $100 less?
