i currently have a samson kit 7 for drum mics, and a 7 piece pacific cx.. looking for the best way to record this kit. mics are for a standard five piece kit with two overhangs. i want to record stereo tracks onto my computer. whats the best way of creating a nice sound with the mics ? also a recommended mixer and how many channels needed XLR, and or inputs..

Recording from a bands Powered Mixer to a Computer Line-in

I'm trying to do a live off the floor recording by taking the Record Tape Out on a powered mixer and plugging the 2 stereo ouputs (a Y cable) into the Line-in jack on a USB line/mic device (basically an external sound 16bit/44Khz card). The PC is a fast WinXP box with 1Gb of Ram using Audacity or Soundforge.

choosing a recording computer

Ok i have an Alesis iO|14 i bought a couple months ago cuz i was just playing around with recording and stuff.. and didnt want to spend a lot of money...so anyways...i just ordered a Firestudio and my Alesis interface has ADAT in. So i was wondering can i hook my firestudio up to the Alesis to add the additional 8 channels ? well untill i get more money to spend on a Digimax fs?
