SM57 vs. Audix i5

I know most consider the 57 industry standard, and a good go-to mic, but put popularity and all that aside. I want to know what you think of each of them and more importantly WHY.

Thanks!

EDIT: industry standard and go-to mic for Micing guitar amps and snare drums. Just so I don't get flamed for making a blanket statement. :p

Mics: SM57 vs. 8900

Hi all,

I just got the SM57 and after recording some samples I noticed I performs like the Shure 8900, so I got both next to each other a put a metronome like 10cms from them, and compared the Waveswhich look pretty much identical.

What type of sounds will help me see the difference ?, is it in front of a amp where I can see a difference ?, any other way to notice it ?

Shure 545SD Unidyne III vs. SM57. What's the difference?

So; I was talking with a friend of mine and we both professed our ignorance regarding the difference between these two mikes. Does one have a transformer and not the other? Aren't the capsules essentially the same? Was the SM57 simply an upgrade on cosmetics?

It would be interesting if anyone had some insight on this. at least to me, anyways!

SM57 vs. e906 and 609

I've won a $1,000 gift certificate in a George's Music contest and want to possibly get another mic for guitar cabinets. Can someone compare the Sennheiser e906 and 609 to a 57 for me? I would like a description of the sonic difference and if someone had a A/B soundclip of the two that would help as well.

Personal opinions/experience are also great. thanks

Alternative to SM57

Are there any somewhat-similar mics to the SM57? As in: good for combos, some snares, percs, some interesting vocals, but with a different character to the SM57. I'm asking because I'd like to expand my mic locker, and would need additional mics to handle more jobs like my current (single) SM57 handles at this moment, but with some more tonal variety.

Hope that made sense.

Shrue sm57...

Theres a problem with my mic, when i record there is response from the mic with the green bar going up only when i make the sound into the mic but when i record its a complete noise like when a TV channel stops working and you see a black and white dots everywhere and its makes that hush sound non stop.. no idea why this is .. its just happened out of know where..

any thoughts?

Shure SM57 Drum Mics

Im looking to start a studio sometime in the near / distant future. I was looking into getting the Shure SM57 drum mic kit, and I was hoping to get some opinions on the kit. I've done some reviews on the kits as is, and they seem to be pretty popular, but I was hoping to get the opinions of some seasoned veterans.

Any input would be greatly appreciated :)
