For those new ones that can't believe that we keep recommending 57's, there is ample precedent back when singers and bands actually performed and didn't lip sync.

And of course labeling the mic with colored tape to prevent band mischief!

So i just got my sm57 and have it going through a firebox and i am using garage band most of the time, but just started getting more heavily involved with LogicPro 8. I am not the most experienced "recording artist".. well I'm sure i dont know most things.. so excuse my lack of knowledge.

I have done this before with bad results because the mics are so similar that they create problems and audio artifacts and such. Is there a way that I can however use them at the same time to mic my amp? I believe that they both result in good sound that is different and adds to eachother nicely. Hopefully there is a smart way of doing this.

I was wondering if I need a pop filter for my SM57. Is the windscreen enough, or do I need an additional pop filter?

I'm trying to connect a Shure SM57 microphone to computer. I have Shure SM57 XL2 to TS connected to Behringer Mic800, and TS (unbalanced) to 1/4" line-in connected to a splitter to both L &R the line-in on the Audiophile 192.

I can't seem to receive a signal using the setup.

very unscientific, but i did get all mics as close to coincident as reasonably possible. signal chain:

mic -> onyx 1640 -> firewire -> tracktion -> normalized -> .aiff file

Recording a band live to stereo in a basement. After putting together all our mics, and Micing everything (DI for bass and keys) except for two overheads for drums and two guitar cabs, we are left with a pair of SM57's and a pair of SM58's.
