Clear Signal
The clean, non-noise portion of a signal. It represents the "pure sound" you would hear if you could eliminate all electronic hiss.

(Sometimes) Bad Signal-Noise Ratio when Recording Bass
So, its the weirdest thing, sometimes when I record bass I get a really clean signal, good sound, all sunny and clear...
...and then other times its like some evil beast inside my setup is hissing at me for not feeding it or something. Ok, its not THAT bad, but its still noticeably worse at some times than at others.
Cable Length signal loss
I'm building my cable length's. Choosing Mogami
Analog
4' snakes would be really clean but you never know if those cables might be needed down the path at a longer lenght. How many times do we say that after the fact.
Questions:
Has anyone ever added an extension to 25PIN DSUB 8 channel snake to add extra length for analog? pro's cons?

Signal Chains
I debated on whether to put this in the Pro Audio or Pro Recording Forum... pretend it's in both.

Feeding a test signal into multiple input channels
Wondering if someone has a fast easy way to get a test tone into 26 channels at the same time to test for recording dropouts and performance.
I have a ZED16R with 16 channels of ADAT running into a FF800 with the remaining 10 inputs. I have a sine wave generator for the test tone.
Audio Signal Flow Charts
If You wanted to use an Outboard Processor such as a limiter or parametric EQ on a particular input position on a 32 Input Inline Console, how would you route the signal to and from the device. What would be the signal flow chart?

Converting unbalanced to balanced signals.
I've been making music on synths, drum machines, bucketts and my computer for about 15 yrs now yet I've got no formal training. I realize that for long cable runs, it’s best to use balanced cables to reduce noise and grounding problems. What about cable runs (15 to 25 ft) to gear with unbalanced outputs like vintage synths?

signal too hot
Hi,
Im recording from desk line out to a cam corder mic in [with no option]
and need to make an attenuator in the chord to get a
useable level signal without distortion .
We havent had a listen in to our performances for some time
and i would hope our musicianship is improving, and of course
hear the crap that needs cutting ..
