Im looking into putting togeather my own small studio.(help)

Alright ive been recording for about a year now but i use my dads tape deck set up. I would like to swicth to digital recording just on my computer. And i almost want to start like my own small studio. i dont really want to spend more than 800$. So what will be best for me to get I need at least 8 tracks that can be recorded at once. I was looking into the firepod.

Start small or go for expandability? Firestudio or Firepod?

I'm thinking of buying a firewire soundinterface in the likes of PreSonus Firestudio, mostly because of the expandability with the ADAT connectivity. Thing is, for a poor sound engineering student like me, that's a lot of money. I'd gladly put out the money if it's an interface i can do with for some time.

Large or small Diaphragm ?

I have (in my short life as a recording enthusiast) always used a pair of c1000,s as overheads but I have primarily used them to mic up the cymbals (rolling off everything below 500hz).
I am now trying to progress and to purchase 2 mics that I can use as true overheads. I want two mics that will give a good sound of the whole kit so that all I need to add is a kick and snare mic.

PA System Suggestions for small venue / coffee house

I am getting older and find myself leaving the bar/club scene, and leaving the full band behind. I have been doing more and more acoustic sets as of late and the old PA system has about had it!

I am looking to upgrade everything starting with speakers first.
I think powered is the way to go just for simplicity reasons, and have been leaning towards the Mackies or JBLs
