Some tricks for small ensemble recordings

I'm going to link some vids from a Canadian Brass Quintet session or two. These can help give a visual example of what one production team decides to do in a given situation. Realize that every engineer has their own pet tricks though most are highly flexible in changing to get the desired result.

Recording with small amplifier? PLEASE HELP!

Ok, well I was recording guitar tracks today for over 6 hours with a Shure SM57 mic, placed right between the center of the speaker, and the outside edge. I was Micing my Line 6 Spider IV 150W Halfstack, and recording into a Tascam DP-004. The guitar I was using was a Gibson Les Paul Studio. I wondering though...could I get a better sound out of my smaller Line 6 Spider III 75W 1X12 Amp?

Figured out MIDI, but some small glitches remain

I now have Cubase running not too badly, and all the MIDI is going in and out. I have finally gotten the cables plugged in so the signal travels all the way through. The biggest obstacle here was my master keyboard (Roland A90EX), because I did not realize that in order to use the MIDI THRU port, you have to have the signal coming in MIDI IN 2, not port #1, as most would assume (including me).
