KISS and their snare rolls
Forums
Ok, so I am listening to KISS recently, and I notice somthing about their snare rolls. They seem to have a faint flanging quality to them. Anyone else noticed that, or heard a similar effect on any other album?
my little brother just gave me their greatest hits, I think I may have to start picking up a few of their albums, great stuff.

EQ'ing Snare Drum
Forums
Been hearing many techno/dance songs which have a snare drum pick-up to transition from the intro to the song...apart from increasing in volume (the norm), many also have the EQ on the snare drum going from enhanced lows to enhanced highs (in a very fluid manner)...
just wondering how to go about achieving this?

St. angers Snare sound
Forums
I think we could all use a laugh. I found this on drumheads.org forum.. "Sadly it is his bell brass. The funny thing is, I know a very cost efficient way to replicate that sound. Go find a metal chair and hit the seat part. A garbage can also be used. Honest to God, they sound identical"

Recording snare drum: your favorite mic combi...
Forums
Hi folks!
I have just finished recording some drum takes one hour ago.
We were reasearching for a nice bright tone, testing several snares, mic placement and mic combinations.
For mic placement, I utilized one mic at the classic top position and the other one as a side snare mic, similar to Fletcher's technique.

How do YOU "fatten" a snare ?
Forums
I know that there are several surprising solutions: Some people swear by the gated reverb of an old Yamaha SPX-90, I keep a (noisy) Quadraverb I around for that purpose.
What do you use?
