Need Recording Software Advice Please!

I'm new to recording and don't have a clue what recording software would be good to get. All that's really important to me is the recording and editing part, not virtual tracks (that seems to be advertised a lot). Just to give you some specs, I'm looking for software for Mac, and a price range of a couple hundred (preferably not over 300). If I left anything out just tell me, thanks a lot!

QUESTION ABOUT SOFTWARE INSTRUMENTS

I have been doing some research on some good authentic software instruments. And I came across Colossus from East West/Quantum Leap. From what I read it seems to have all the instuments I need, piano, orchestra, bass, strings the whole nine yards. Im alittle new to the midi software game. My question is has anybody heard these instruments and the quality of them?

Setting up home studio..software and equipment help.

hello everyone, this is my first post on here. I have already found a wealth of information after my discovery of this site tonight. Let me introduce myself. My name's Brett, i'm from Jax Florida and i'm in a band Post Faction. We've been touring/playing for a few years now, recorded a few EP's with some well known producers, and now i'm ready for the recording fun in the comfort of my home.

Consistency when working with two seperate softwares.

Hello everyone, pretty new here. I'm building a song in reason 3.0 it's becoming pretty cpu intensive. I've got a lot of combinators running these patterns etc and I I'd like to re-create my' music in pro-tools. I've tried rewiring but it's difficult trying to get the mix to gel as it did solely in reason. Whatsmore it seems I cannot actually record anything this way.

What software should I think about getting for my Mac?

I don't know the first thing about mastering and I have only just started on my recording path. I have a Mac and I am just using garage band for now. I wonder if there is something out there for mastering music that is as introductory and elementary as garage band. I like the idea of just figuring out how to use what is simple first and then upgrading.
