Creative 5.1 USB External Soundcard

I just bought a Creative 5.1 USB External Soundcard to get surround sound from my computer to my surround system. I noticed that the external soundcard has a microphone input integrated. I was wandering if anyone knows the quality of that input? Is it an equivalent to a cheap microphone preamp or is it as bad as plugin your microphone directly to your computers mini-jack stick?

How does a standalone converter integrate with a sound card?

I just don't get it: I use and ECHO Layla3G. It has 8 ins and outs and, of course, its own converters. It works and sounds great, but in the relentless pursuit of the golden signal chain, I've always wanted to upgrade to a better set of converters, but I can't wrap my mind around how it would work.

is a Tascam soundcard a good way to start a home studio

i have a basic drum microphone recording kit. It has 4 different microphones. I aslso have a Tascam soundcard with two mic inputs for live recording and another two inputs. I currently am thinking about getting a macbook for my recorsding laptop. is this good? and if i need more inputs should i get another soundcard and move up to a mixer?

DSP24 Value sound card - cannot save presets

I have a DSP24 Value sound card. For some strange reason I have never been able to save my presets. I tried almost anything including uninstalling and re-installing. In the output mixer I want to save output 1/2 as "wave out" but everytime I restart my computer the settings are reverted back to its original setting.

Strangely enough channel volume settings are saved.
