suggestions for a portable recorder

Hi!
I'm thinking about hanging around recording sounds (animals, cars, noises, whatever) to try and play with them. And so i need a portable recorder... 2 tracks ought to be enough (mono or stereo miking), and needs to be plain simple to use.
I was thinking about a minidisc... any suggestions?
By the way, can I use other mics than those designed for the minidisc?

Mixer Suggestions

After the last post I figured I probably should just get a mixer with 8 mic/line inputs to record drums. Do you guys have any suggestions to which one I should get. I would like to keep the price range under $500 if possible. I was looking at older ramsa wr-133 mixers on ebay, any other I should look at.

P.s. this mixer will be plugged into the line inputs of my firebox

STUDIO UPGRADE SUGGESTIONS WANTED

What's up RO fam,
I'm new to this forum and have enjoyed reading the different posts and picking up jewels here and there. I'm asking for recommendations from the knowledgeable people here on any upgrades that would enhance what I already own. I mainly work with hip hop artists and record some live guitar/bass here and there. Anyway here's my setup.
