Looking for the classic vintage tube mic
I'm in the process of searching for a workhorse, multipattern tube mic to fill a sonic hole in my mic cabinet. The "hole" is in the low mids to mostly quality low end. In my search I've been torn between the classic 251, 67 and 47 sound characteristics. The uses will be the full range of male/female vocals, acoustic instruments and room mic. Not asking much right?

New Vintage Mic Day x 2
I am always a sucker for cool, older microphones that critics say still have great mojo. I was interested in enhancing my inventory of acoustic instrument microphones (guitar, piano, drums, winds), and read some articles about the 1970s-90s era AKG C451E. I found a pair for a good price, and just got them today.

vintage tube mics: worth it or not?
Hey guys, I'm working on a mix of my cover of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. I think the vocal might be a bit low in the mix and a bit too congested around 300-500k/not bright enough. I used my new Telefunken Elam 251 and for the price, I'm trying to make decisions about whether or not I should hold onto it or go with another vintage tube that suits my voice.

Reconstructing vintage mic cables
Unless I'm completely stupid, which is a distinct possibility, I didn't see a forum specifically for this sort of thing, so I'm sticking it here.
I've got a few vintage dynamic microphones that require a special four prong connection at the mic. I've got one such working cable. This cable boils down to an unbalanced quarter inch plug.

AKG D12e
Someone I know is selling a AKG D12e from the 60's/70's with the original box in great condition.
I don't know much about it since they aren't made anymore. Tell me everything and everything about them, what style they're for, reviews, critiques, ups/downs...everything and anything about this mic.

how do I match a pre to a Vintage Mic
I've acquired a RCA 44 Jr. for my little home studio 8)
now what do I plug this baby into to best compliment.
I sort of want to be versatile, but it's a nitch type of item,
so I'd prefer to matched to the era and style
this mic was made in 1940
...what where they plugging it into then?
