removing 'distant sound' from voice recording

I am currently mixing a number of tracks for an amateur production. One of these tracks involves a vox recording through a stereo mic. Because there are about 6 people singing, but not simultaneously, and there was not much studio time, the recording engineer (not me) decided to choose this option.

Voice over for Audio book - advice ?

Hi, I have a project I am doing as a favour for a friend he is recording his book to CD, and I have not had any experience with Micing for this purpose. it should be a natural appealing sound that is not super compressed/close miced - that is I'm not after a typical in your face " radio " sound, just a clear natural clean and appealing recording.

Voice-over/Spoken Word Suggestions?

I do spoken word and voice-over work. I am learning how to do the recording aspects myself with a small project studio at home. I am very interested in what everyone with experience in that area thinks about:
1. microphone selection (is the Sennheiser 416 the one?)
2. microphone placement
3. EQ, Compression, etc while tracking... opinions.
