I love the story Rupert tells about meeting Ray Dolby, and how they were both starting their companies at around the same time, and came to their " gentleman's agreement"...

"Tell you what, Ray, you stick to noise reduction and not make consoles and I'll stick to consoles and not make noise reduction.."

With a simple handshake-style agreement, they promised to not step on each others' toes.

These days a simple agreement like that would take half a dozen law firms, 50 accountants and 100 marketing reps.... and a 2000 page contract... LOL

Thanks for these fascinating links.

I found it interesting that he started out sending home high-fi products to the states. I didn't know that. I don't recall ever seeing anything from outside the US in the 1950s. The first that I heard of English products for home was from the Quad company. I would be interested in seeing any links to historical information about this.
