i'm looking to put together a portable little live channel strip/recording interface centered around an fmr rnp and rnc.
since those are 1/3 rack space in size i was thinking about this for eq - http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EQ3B/
and then maybe pick up a 2 channel converter to record with my macbook. any recommendations for something inexpensive with no preamps in it? thanks.
FMR gear is WAY better quality gear than those little $99 boxes
FMR gear is WAY better quality gear than those little $99 boxes from PreSonus, it's not funny. Try not to make your gear judgements based on physical dimensions of the box ( sometimes that DOES come into play, but...). A decent sounding EQ generally requires a good deal of componentry and design chops. This is why there are so many pre's and compressors on the lower-priced market, very few non-graphic EQ's.Do a little more research, you may find some discontinued Rane or Symetrix (model SX-201) "mini-Eq" units on e-Bay.
And, FWIW, I wouldn't "cheapen" your nice start with the FMR stuff by throwing the PreSonus in with it, just to have EQ. EQ is nice to have, but is really "icing on the cake". Save up for something better.
