Hi there,

I've just ruined 40 CD's witch all have errors at 60min. and some of them is starting with the errors at 2min.
It's those kind og errors that plays fine in the CD player but just doesn't have excactly the same data as there was in the original file.

I've tried 1x,2x and 4x speeds.
The controller and burner are both terminated corectly.
The burner is testet with IDs from 0-3 with no effect on the errors.
I use Sequoia with an Adaptec 2904 and a PLEXTOR PX-W124ST.
I've tried TDK and Hispace media.

Everything looks perfect when the CD's gets burned until Sequoia is testing the CD for errors and comparing it to the original file.
Sometimes I can burn a CD with 40 minutes with no errors ?
It's like there is a turnpoint at 60 minutes?

Have anybody in here tried this? and what did they do?

...I've tried almost anything the last 4 days! anything in XP is deaktivated, my PCI buses is empty except for the Adaptec card.
And no powersafe or screensaver used. I'm totally f**ked!

Try using TDK CDR-music cd's. Those are the music CDR's for stand alone players. The media is rated at 1X and burns fine. I have noticed in the last 2 months that there has been a dramatic change in CDR media as the media I was using for refs quadrupled in error rates. I thought something broke but it just turned out to be the media. I have switched over to music cd'rs and all is good.

Two suggestions. 1) is your burner going bad? 2)is the media you are using having problems? I would get some fresh media and try it first. You may have gotten a bad batch of CDs. If you still have problems you may have a CD writer that is going bad and the laser is growing weak or intermittent it happened to me on a Sony CD writer.

Sounds to me like your burner is going bad... Do you have any other CD burners that you can test?

I would also suggest going to the Sequoia Download page and making sure you have the most recent set of CD drivers as that can affect your burn quality sometimes.

You also may find that your CD media is optimized for burning at a faster rate than single speed. Most of the newer drives out there will do 4x at its slowest setting. I find on my Plextor Premium drives, that I don't have a significatly higher error rate at a 32x burn than I do at the 4x (slowest) setting.

Which version of Sequoia are you on?

Thanks all!!

But the problem was not the burner or sequoia.
After trying this with another SCSI PCI host controller and another Plextor buner i had to realize that this doesn't make any sence!!

...So i reinstalled XP with no PCI cards installed(except SCSI card) and burned a track perfectly with no errors.
After that i put all the PCI cards in again and the problem came back.
As i write this I'm testing different BIOS settings and reading on different forums to solve this problem.

If I had not used the error tester in Sequoia I would have never found out about this... witch conserns me alot since many peoble just burn it down with their tracking program and are not able to test for errors.

Anyone in here that uses a pc for mastering other than me?
I'm planning on making a little guide for installing a PC the right way with BIOS settings and how to install XP/Programs and PCI cards in the right steps.
This will only count for Intell P4 - 875 users though! AMD is a whole other story i guess...

SCSI can be a problem all unto itself. I spent weeks trying to track down a problem with one of our burners only to find out that the cord connector was faulty and was not allowing a good connection when attached to the back of the computer's SCSI port. I have also had problems with terminations and with bad SCSI controller cards and interrupts on the PCI bus.

Check your cables - what may appear to be problems elsewhere could be a cable problems and you are only exacerbating them by moving the equipment/computer around when you are checking other things. Also make sure you have the latest firmware updates for your CD writer and the latest software updates for your controller card. SCSI is GREAT when it is all working but sometimes you can spend inordinate amounts of time trying to track down the simplest thing in the SCSI chain.

Thanks Thomas I will keep that in mind...
I already have changet the SCSI controller and kabel with the other installation of XP with no luck. The Sub-D connectors look very fragile with their 50 small pins... I broke one pin on the first cable in frustration :twisted:

It's now the 3'rd installation of XP and it looks promissing...
I did every thing in specific steps starting with advanced BIOS settings.
In XP there's no IRQ sharing between the soundcards/SCSI and other devices... I will try to write a CD now to see if it's safe :D

Thomas, do you have an error counter? have you tested the CD's that comes out of your system?
And what software are you using?
