I have a small home Studio with an 001. I am planning on cutting demo's and ideas for my band in my studio and want to get a good sounding mic preamp (2 channels) and a couple of mics (or 1 stereo mic) to use on overheads. I only got 1000-1500 to spare... any ideas?

I have heard that bellari preamps sound ok and are very cheap... what about mics? I have used a Shure vp88 and liked it, AT4033's?

any comments? ideas?

thanks a lot

bohemio,

I suggest going to google.com and searching rec.audio.pro newsgroup for mic pres and mics. There's tons of discussion on every mic pre available.

I'm not sure of the mic pre option in the $1000 range, but with the remaining $500 in your budget the concensus would be to check out a pair of the Oktava MC012 small diaphragm condensors from the soundroom.

You have a couple of halfway decent mic pre's in your 001.

Buy a couple of decent dynamic microphones, SM57 Shures will work just fine.

The Bellari preamps work, but if you want a really decent preamp, look at the Peavey VMP1

For overheads and general use, check out the Oktava Microphones from the Sound Room, You will like them a lot better than the VP88
