Alright, I bought a really cheap mic off Radioshack ($20 dynamic). And I also have Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition, and an adapter to hook up my mic to the line-in socket of my computer. So I thought I was all set. Well, I can record and everything, but when I hear my vocals through the speakers, it's only coming out of ONE speaker. Or when I listen to my music in headphones, it's only coming out through ONE headphone. I realize that the adapter I have is mono to mono, and mono = one speaker. But I'm still not sure if that's the problem, because I went to various Radioshack's and they claI'm that 1/4" to 1/8" mono to stereo adapters don't even exist. So I searched all over Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition, and I couldn't find a setting ANYWHERE so I can put my voice output to stereo. Well overall, I just want to know if there's anyway possible to put vocals in a microphone and it comes out of BOTH speakers. I'm not sure what the problem is: my adapter, microphone, computer, or what.

Well for some reason, when I put my mic in the pink "mic-in" slot, it doesn't work (I guess my computer is not responding the the mic slot). But when I put it in the line-in, it does work. What's the difference between the line-in and the regular mic slot anyhow? Just wondering.
Oh, and can someone please link me a 1/4" to 1/8" mono to stereo that would work with this situation? thanks. The only mono to stereo adapters I can find are the headphone ones, and those don't work.

Is that question referring to why my mic line-in isn't working? because I did everything possible to get my in-line mic socket to work (if not, where is this software contorl panel... I looked at every audio-related thing in the control panel for my comp though..), but it just doesn't work. Plus my main concern is to figure out why my voice is just coming through one speaker, and not the whole system like the production is.

The software control panel I'm referring to is dependent on what kind of sound card you have. Some have software for adjusting the i/o. Sometimes it's down in the system tray on the lower right.

thanks for the help. Is there anyway I can change how it's coming through one stereo input, and make it all? On the system tray, all the balance meters are in the middle...
first of all, dont connect the mic in the line-in. if u had a mi
first of all, dont connect the mic in the line-in. if u had a mixer then u would do so. but since u just have a mic, u would connect in the mic-in slot. there is such stuff as 1/4" to 1/8", and i use it myself for various reasons.
also check the balance for the mic and the output. make sure theyre in the middle of the windows' mixer.
