Didnt see a thread for this so decided to start one.
Just saw this in my search for a new interface. so my question is, i have read that you can use the MOTU 8pre as an interface alone, could you use the RME quad mic as an interface? Or does it need the ad converters?
Could you run this into a duet to use thier converters?
Or is that not even a good idea?

so i am trying to decide my best bang for the buck on my new interface setup for less than $700.
Need 4 inputs or more My ideas are either get a motu traveler. Get a motu 828mk2 plus the RME quadmic? or try to get an older motu896.
does any one stand out better than the other?

With your restricted budget, concentrate on getting the best audio interface you can for the money and leave the RME Quadmic for a later day. One of the offerings from Presonus, MOTU, Edirol or others that has built-in mic pre-amps will see you right until you have saved up some more.

It's not a good idea to run the QuadMic into the pre-amps of an interface such as the Duet, as you would be cascading pre-amp colours.
