I can remember starting out with Cakewalk Pro, then moved to a Roland VS 880 , then back to computer based recording with Vegas. Then I saw an add for Nuendo, talked it over with some producer friends of mine and decided to make a go of it. I must say...I LOVE IT! I've used Pro Tools on several occasions and I think Nuendo is a much better software/hardware program hands down! Now I use Nuendo in my home studio for pre-production and demo ideas, but I have spoken to many major producers who think that Nuendo is going to take over the market very soon.

Let's not forget OMF (Open Music Function) which allows you to take your work cross platform to protools and back. Steiberg bought the rights to use this file format from DigiDesign in hopes that engineers could file swap between both platforms i.e. Protools to Nuendo and visa versa. Great idea only DigiDesign is yet to pull through with their end of the bargain. I checked into this about a week ago, and yes you can save your Nuendo work in OMF, you can't in Protools however. My feeling is that Steinberg invested in this licence to get the Protools crowd into the world of Steiberg and Nuendo (which I also think is better). Problem now is that DigiDesign needs to come up with another release that includes this. In the mean time (correct me if I'm wrong), I think that you can "import" OMF into P.T. from Nuendo but not visa versa. Sneaky tactics on the part of Digi.......

For the other posting from PandaM, I'm really not certain about importing PT files into Nuendo or vise versa. I've used Pro Tools in the larger studios. The only reason I'm still using it in the larger studios is because it seems that everyone is hip to Nuendo, but not willing to make a full blown commitment to it yet. I truly believe it's only a matter of time before all the major studios are using Nuendo. In the meantime, I'm using Nuendo exclusively in my home studio.

Yes..Nuendo is making serious headway in the DAW world...I too started off with Cakewalk..got a Roland VS880!! Moved on to Cubase and then got Nuendo the month it came out..no, the week it came out!! lol
The one amazing thing is that it was a PC platform before it was a Mac and right now there's some serious bugs on the Mac side..PC has some bugs but it's a hell of a lot better than the Mac....thats a first huh?
Also the fact that you can use whatever hardware you want to you without having to pay ooogles of cash for it too!
No more proprietary hardware or locked in software useage!!
You'll find Pro Tools users seeing more power and plugin performance on high end PC's than the Macs they use...scary aint it?
